ICT and Innovation Minister Paula Ingabire has urged young people to use social media and digital platforms to develop practical skills that can improve their chances of finding employment and starting businesses.
Speaking during the #MeetThePresident event at BK Arena on Wednesday, October 21, Ingabire said technology offers young people opportunities to learn, improve productivity and explore income-generating activities beyond traditional employment.
She noted that digital tools can benefit people working in different sectors, including agriculture and tailoring, by helping them access knowledge, improve their work and identify new business opportunities.
The Minister encouraged young people to take advantage of online learning resources, stressing that acquiring useful skills does not always require formal education.
According to Ingabire, consistent learning and the willingness to embrace technology can help young people prepare for changing labour market demands and become more productive in their chosen fields.
However, she cautioned against comparing personal progress with achievements displayed on social media, warning that such comparisons can negatively affect mental well-being and create pressure to succeed quickly.
She urged young people to focus on their individual journeys and use digital platforms constructively rather than resorting to shortcuts in pursuit of success.
Ingabire’s message comes as digital skills and technology continue to create opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment across different sectors of Rwanda’s economy.
