Rwanda and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on promoting inclusive and sustainable development through strategic investments in infrastructure, artificial intelligence and disaster risk management.
The commitment was made on Wednesday during high-level talks led by Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa, bringing together representatives from Rwanda and Japan to assess progress in bilateral cooperation and identify areas for expanded collaboration.
The discussions focused on how the two countries can build on their existing partnership to support development that benefits a wider section of society, while responding to emerging economic, technological and environmental challenges.
A key area of discussion was infrastructure development, with both sides exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation in projects that can contribute to Rwanda’s economic transformation and improve connectivity and access to essential services.
The meeting also highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for development. Rwanda and Japan discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in technology and innovation, particularly in ways that can support productivity, public services and inclusive economic growth.
Disaster preparedness and risk reduction also featured prominently in the talks, as the two countries considered ways to strengthen cooperation in preventing and managing the impact of disasters and building greater resilience among communities.
Speaking during the meeting, Minister Murangwa underscored the importance of strengthening partnerships that can translate into practical development outcomes.

Aim of the meeting
