Rwanda is exploring a potential partnership with the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) education in the country, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and emerging technologies.
Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Nkubito Manzi Bakuramutsa, held discussions with Dr. Woo-seung Kim, President of the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation, and representatives of the foundation on opportunities for collaboration in advancing technology-focused education in Rwandan schools.
The discussions centred on how the foundation could support efforts to equip Rwandan students with practical knowledge and skills in areas that are increasingly shaping the global economy, including AI and robotics.
The potential cooperation comes as Rwanda continues to place technology and innovation at the centre of its development agenda, while seeking to strengthen the skills needed by young people to participate in the digital economy.
Through stronger STEAM education, students can be introduced to problem-solving, scientific inquiry, creativity and technological innovation from an early stage. Exposure to AI and robotics can also provide learners with practical experience in technologies expected to play an increasingly important role in industries and public services.
The proposed partnership would therefore seek to go beyond classroom learning by helping students develop competencies that can prepare them for further studies, employment and innovation in technology-related fields.
For Rwanda, expanding access to quality STEAM education is also part of the broader effort to build a skilled workforce capable of supporting the country’s digital transformation and long-term economic development.
The engagement with the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation could create opportunities for knowledge exchange, educational programmes and other initiatives designed to strengthen technological learning among Rwandan students.
The collaboration would ultimately aim to nurture a new generation of young Rwandans with the skills and confidence to develop and apply emerging technologies, positioning them to contribute to the country’s future technological and economic transformation.
